Downtown Concord :: Part 1

Happy Monday All!  I just got back in town last night from my trip to Florida!  Ever felt like you needed a vacation just to rest from your vacation? haha! That's what I feel like! So while I have some beautiful photos and adventures to share with you, I will be posting them in a few days so I can go through all of my, o just 2,000, photos! In the mean time, I wanted to give you a little piece of my hometown for you to start you week off with!

Also, there's so much chaos going on in the blogger world about the possibility of GFC going away, which makes me sad and to be honest a little frustrated. However, we have at least until July to get things in order, but I would hate to lose any of you lovely readers, and hope that you will still choose to follow along with Thirsty World. I haven't changed over my own feed list to my Bloglovin' account, as I was in Florida, but plan on doing so soon so I can still read from all of you!  If you don't follow me yet on Bloglovin',  you can do so here!  I'm looking forward to see what will come next from all of this mess for bloggers. Sometimes change can be exciting even if it doesn't seem like it!
I've always loved the idea of spending a day being a tourist in your hometown.  We tend to take things for granted, so we stop really looking at the places most familiar to us.  So while I was spending a weekend at home with the family, my Dad and I went for a walk on one of the few warm Sunday afternoons in March, through downtown Concord. It's a comforting place to me, somewhere I've been a thousand times, and yet there's still always something new to see.

Sundays in Concord are pretty quite, most of the shops are closed and restaurants and gearing up for after church lunch.  Downtown Concord is a historical district and has roots going back into the 1700's.  I love the enormous old trees that are probably over a hundred years old, and the colorful murals that decorate the distressed brick buildings.  The hand-painted Coca-Cola mural was originally created in 1966, but was then covered by metal siding for decades until it was rediscovered and restored in 2009.  It's nice to know that some things do stand the test of time and are still cherished through it all.

Spotting a ladybug resting in a pot of pansies and a beautiful green lizard sun bathing on the leaves of a shrub, I was reminded that spring is near, full of sunny days and warmer breezes! I'm so looking forward to spring!  I hope you find a quaint beauty in the streets and storefronts of Concord, since they will always have a special place in my heart.

  6. Stopping by from Thumping Thursdays blog hop. That looks like a really cool hometown. I guess this is Concord, NC. which is weird because I am originally from New Hampshire and there is a Concord NH and this kinda reminds me of there - lol

    I didn't know GFC was going away, I heard about the reader. I just joined Bloglovin and will follow you on there. Have a great day :)

    1. Sue, Thanks so much for you kind words! There's a possibility of GFC going away, but no one is sure. Since GFC and google reader are so closely related, no one is positive how the closing of reader will effect gfc. So bloglovin is just a good option and a back up plan! so dont give up on GFC yet! :D
