Back to Badin

It was a soothing moment, standing alone on the dock after a North Carolina summer afternoon thunderstorm, the light just shining behind billowing clouds as a family flock of 50 Canadian geese glided by.  Sometimes all it takes to get back to yourself is to get back to the water.  For years I've cherished summer weekends at the lake, so spending the first weekend of this summer on Badin Lake with friends, dogs and wildlife was a perfect getaway.

On a midmorning ride, we parked the boat to let the dogs run along the rocky bank to release some of their energy.  The water was quiet this weekend, so still you could see the rocks under the small waves constantly going in and out off the bank.  Picking up rocks and pebbles that caught my eye, I was amazed by the collection of colors I held in my hand.  Gifts from the lake that were like gorgeous gems.

This was the first weekend I've been to the lake with my trusted Nikon companion and I had a field day snapping photos of all kinds of small things that I've passed a hundred times, but now see it a little differently through the eye of the lens.  The waterfront has an altered atmosphere with unique vegetation, insects, and textures then that of a cityscape.

Laborless Labor Day

          Long Weekends are amazing things!  I wish every week was only four days; I feel like I would be more motivated to get things done faster if they were!  However sometimes I feel more tired than I was before the weekend began.  But it was Good Weekend #2 of this fall, or really the end of summer I suppose.  And what better way to spend the last week of summer, than at the lake.
        Meeting the boys there, we spent three days on the water, in the water, and around the water.  With dock lanterns glowing, herons flying by and fish nibbling on toes, just spending afternoons cruising by on the boat as the sun shines down, makes me completely relax and just enjoy the moment with everyone and everything in it.  So here are a few snaptured moments from another weekend at Badin Lake!

Weekend at Badin Lake

          Weekends at the lake, were made for summer.  Everything about them, the waves, the sun, the grill, the dogs, the gardenias, and even just the colors are exactly what summer should be.  Vlad and I spent the weekend at our friends lake house at Badin Lake.  It was nice to escape Greensboro, and spend time with friends on the boat, just relaxing in the sun, reading Jurassic Park and cuddling with the puppy.  (& now that camera phones have come so far, I can capture the sweet summertime moments at the lake without the nightmare of my nice camera going for a swim!)
