80 Years of Family

This weekend I was happy to be an event photographer for Lindley's grandmother's 80th birthday party!  Her family hosted it at Table 16, located in downtown Greensboro, which was a perfect atmosphere for gathering together to celebrate!

With a handmade stand displaying various flavors of cupcakes and a selection of bite size appetizers, the food and wine added to the casual elegance of the party.  Photographs throughout the decades were scattered on the tables partnered with a "What Happened in 1933" fun fact sheet.  Her grandmother was surrounded by family and friends, including two girlfriends that she has known since the first grade!  Can you imagine being able to stay in touch with someone for almost 75 years?!

The entire afternoon was full of love and joy, as people reunited with relatives and family friends. With laughter and small talk, I felt so welcomed.  It was so nice to spend time around people who exuded kindness and good karma and who were enjoying the moment with the ones they loved the most.

Mexican Food in Style

Chevellas in Brooklyn, NY
I've grown up with Mexican restaurants being the local hang out.  It was Casa Grande in high school, where my girlfriends and I would celebrate every holiday, or birthday, to discuss any crisis or fix every puppy love heartache.  In college, El Careton became an escape from endless projects, or post exam celebration, and it was conveniently located on the street behind campus.  But of all the Mexican restaurants, Brooklyn's Chevellas was the most unique atmosphere for authentic mexican food.  It was the perfect environment to relax with friends.  The whole restaurant just radiated good vibes!
To any future patrons: Definitely try the cucumber drink, so cool and refreshing with a little spicy flavor from the crushed pepper rim!  :D

Superbowl Sunday!

New England Superbowl
While it ended with a tough loss for Boston's New England Patriots, Superbowl Sunday was energized by a city's loyalty and devotion.  Bar tables filled by 2:30 and the streets flowed with fans decorated in navy blue and white. We choose to go back to The Harp, which offered a relaxed atmosphere with a free buffet at halftime.
After the final score, the city once again filled with fans, but it was with an eerie silence that they walked home.  It was a sad night for Boston, even the police officers who had put up baracades for expected riots after a win, took them down with a heavy heart.
However, the effort of arriving at the bar 5 hours early, and watching a rollarcoaster game, was all worth it to be a part of a city so involved and expectant of their home team.  It's a feeling that only sports can give a city, an enthuasium and a place to hold their hopes.

Boston NightLights

I've been fascinated with city nightlights since I was a little girl, when my Dad and I would take drives through Charlotte.  Whenever I come to a major city I make it a point to take a stroll through the streets when the nightlights shine the brightest.

Lucia
415 Hanover Street, Boston MA 02113
Lucia's has a warm atompshere with its exposed brick walls and wine bottle decor.  We shared an appetizer of fresh bruschetta with feta and basil to start which complemented my entree of creamy alfredo.  Italian is always my comfort food on a cold night.

Mike's Pastry
300 Hanover Street, Boston MA 02113

Sadly I lost all my pictures from Mike's Pastrys, but you can tell by this picture from my phone how crowded the shop was, and apparently the line never seems to shorten!  But its definately a line worth waiting in!  I'd never had a cannoli until my trip to Mikes.  They only take cash, which helps get people through the line faster, but for three dollars your get a canoli thats enough for two.  We got two to share, one Oreo and one Florentine, which had a waffle cone-like shell instead of the classic softer one.  To fully appreciate them you have to really have a sweet tooth they are so rich!

An Afternoon of Lobster and Beer

Yankee Lobster Eatery
It was a windy afternoon in Boston, but the sun was shining on the harbor.  Instead of the ritzy Boston seafood restaurants or the more popular Union Oyster House, we choose a smaller, out of the way place.  Right on the water, Yankee Lobster Eatery, had amazing seafood without the shiny display.  However don't let the rough exterior fool you, there seafood was fresh and delicious!  Along with crab cakes, I tried lobster for the first time in their lobster bisque soup that was rich and creamy with lots of lobster!
Harpoon Brewry
There are several choices of brewry tours in the Boston area including Samual Adams and the Boston Beer Company, but the one known for the best tour and tour guides is the Harpoon Brewry.  Right beside the Yankee Lobster, it was easy to get to, but heads up, buy your tickets before 2:30, or the rest of the day's tours will be sold out.
The tour was informative mixed with a side of comedy.  We had an amazing tour guide who definitely kept the lecture lively.  Harpoon is a growing company, continuing to expand, so the information expressed how far its broaden its market already and what they are expecting for the future.  Since I like pale ales, my favorite samples were the UFO White, the Harpoon Belgian Pale Ale, and the UFO Raspberry contrasted with a fruitful flavor.
