The Sun will Always Rise on a Better Day

Every morning I wake up before it's light out, and drive to work just in time for the sunrise.  While it's earlier than I'd like to up most days, I'm still a morning which means I can make the best of it, like seeing the beauty in a great sunrise!  As you could imagine if you read this blog, my Instagram is mainly comprised of photos   either of Einstein or pretty clouds, which is basically my life on weekdays.  So I wanted to share a few of my favorite skies, on a larger scale, from my growing collection.  All of these are taken from the vantage point of my office window, which I am so lucky for such a gorgeous view! So I hope your inner morning person can enjoy these as much as I do!

To get color schemes from these photos check out my Color Collection page here!  Still a working progress but will be home to all the color schemes I've made from my photography for you to use and enjoy!

Campus Colors

It's starting to get colder in North Carolina, but this was one of the prettiest autumns we've had in the piedmont for several years.  There was a good four weeks of color on the trees, when we usually only get two before everything turns brown, so here's one last look before they all blow away, leaving empty branches and a winter setting.  With the malls and shopping centers having already hung their wreaths, put up their Christmas trees and bedazzled their displays with red and gold, the holidays are quickly setting in!  I can already smell Thanksgiving turkey and crisp pumpkin pie!  So before all the festivities start, here's a few pictures celebrating this year's autumn season that has been so good to us!

Wires and Rust

My project for work next week is to make foldable brochures we can mail to prospective GTCC students interested in automotive work.  But the coolest thing about this project, is that when you unfold the package it becomes a poster!
So today, I took the first step and did a photo shoot of our Ford and GM technical car programs down in the vehicle workshop. Of course walking in, I immediately noticed the parts and pieces in every corner.  The countertops were covered in electronic devices and the floors were strewn with colored wires, twisted in balls of tangles.
I couldn't help but be mesmerized  by the bits of scraps and the rusted practice cars, when one of the guys came up to me, watching my stare into the abyss of wires, and said "it's just a mess isn't it!"  And before I could say anything else I looked up at him and just smiled, replying "I love it!"
It think its the vibrant colors that made the chaotic workroom so amazing to me!  The things people usually toss aside or just overlook as broken bits or unfinished things, I found to have an imperfect beauty that I felt compelled to capture!

Billboards By Me

Today I was driving down the highway to go to Wal-Mart and looked up to realize that I was staring at my own work!  What was only a few inches on my computer screen was now displayed for all of Greensboro to see!  My first major project since I've been working at Guilford Technical Community College was a set of two billboards to celebrate their student's recent success!  The billboards are in rotation on 6 different signs throughout the Triad area.  It's such an amazing feeling to see your work displayed the way it was created to be, so I thought I'd just share a little bit of my day job!

Golf Day

Monday, September 10th, was the GTCC (Guilford Technical Community College) annual golf tournament. This grand event is a fundraiser for student scholarships and is a big contributor every year.  Sunday evening marks the beginning of the tournament with a pairings party and a live auction.  Partnering with the Wyndham Championship, GTCC held the events at the Sedgefield Country Club, built in 1926 and retaining its regal qualities from the turn of the century, when the golf that was played here was known around the globe.
It really was a perfect day for a golf game!  It was one of the first days that you could finally feel autumn in the air.  Cooler in the morning, with a sausage biscuit and coffee in hand, the shotgun start (which is where every team begins at a different hole and rotates around the course until they've completed all 18 holes) made the tournament go by smoothly as the teams circulated the course.
I was one of two photographers for the day, taking team photos that the players would take home as part of their souvenir package.  I got my own golf cart for the day and my very first Ralph Lauren golf shirt with an emerald green horse and GTCC embroidered on the sleeve.  It was so gorgeous outside, spending the day cruising around a golf course with a camera seemed quite perfect!  Here are a few of my snaptured shots from the tournament!
